A FINE TRADITION
Skeppshult has been producing premium classic bicycles in Sweden for nearly 100 years. It all began in 1911 in the repair shop of the
Samuelsson family farm. Albert, the oldest son began building and selling bicycles. These bicycles were the forerunner of what we recognize today as the commuter bicycle with durable tires, fenders, chain guard and a footbrake.
Thirty years later, in the 1940’s, the younger brother Arvid took over. He grew the business and moved it away from the farm to its own location on Storgatan 78 where it still operates today. Skeppshult, a name taken from the town where the bicycles are produced, maintains the practice of producing fine quality well designed bicycles without cutting corners. Frames are still welded by hand today in a state of the art, wind powered facility.
AWARD WINNING BIKES
Skeppshult has received various European bicycle design awards over the years. In 1998, they were awarded the prestigious Swedish Design Excellence for the collaboration on the Z bike with Bjorn Dahlstrom. In 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005,2006, 2007,2008, 2010, Skeppshult was named Bicycle Supplier of the year by Sportfack magazine. Skepphult uses quality suppliers for its components like Brooks® saddles, Selle Royale® gel seats, Shimano® hubs, DT Swiss® spokes, Schwalbe® tires.
The company has also been awarded a royal warrant, which is a distinction awarded by the King of Sweden to companies who show a superior standard of quality and workmanship. Some other companies who share this distinction are Kosta Boda, Orrefors and the Grand Hotel Stockholm.
